Characterization of Road - Edge Markings in Support of ~ o a & Departure Prevention Systems

چکیده
Most vision-based system for lane detection and tracking use painted lane markings as the visual cues which determine the location of the camera relative to the lane. Almost all of the work that has been done in the area of evaluating the pegformance of these systems has focused on the accuracy of the recovered lane geometry. Reliability of feature detection as a function of intrinsic marking properties, ambient lighting and weather conditions, and viewing geometry is an equally important aspect of algorithm pelformance which must be explored if progress is to continue in this area of research. This paper reports a small scale effort to attack one aspect of this problem, the automated characterization of the intrinsic visual properties of white painted lane markings. Images of the right lane marking are taken by a camera mounted in an trailer enclosure towed behind a vehicle, allowing control of the lighting conditions. The intensity histogram of each image is examined to select a threshold which is used to classify each pixel as pavement or stripe. The edges of the white stripe are located using robust estimation and a shared vanishing point constraint. Once the stripe edges are located in an image, stripe properties such as width, brightness, and contrast with the pavement are calculated.

Road Departure Avoidance System Based on the Driver Decision Estimator
In this paper a robust road departure avoidance system based on a closed-loop driver decision estimator (DDE) is presented. The main idea is that of incorporating the driver intent in the control of the vehicle. The driver decision estimator computes the vehicle look ahead lateral position based on the driver input and uses this position to establish the risk of road departure. To induce a risk...
متن کاملMulti-Lane Visual Perception for Lane Departure Warning Systems
This paper presents a Road Detection and Tracking algorithm for Lane Departure Warning Systems. An inverse perspective transformation gives a bird-eye view of the road, where longitudinal road markings are detected by exploration of horizontal gradient, looking for a road marking model. Next, a parabolic lane model is fitted to road markings and tracked through a particle filter. The right and ...
متن کاملScan Line Based Road Marking Extraction from Mobile LiDAR Point Clouds†
Mobile Mapping Technology (MMT) is one of the most important 3D spatial data acquisition technologies. The state-of-the-art mobile mapping systems, equipped with laser scanners and named Mobile LiDAR Scanning (MLS) systems, have been widely used in a variety of areas, especially in road mapping and road inventory. With the commercialization of Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADASs) and sel...
متن کاملEdge-Szeged and vertex-PIindices of Some Benzenoid Systems
The edge version of Szeged index and vertex version of PI index are defined very recently. They are similar to edge-PI and vertex-Szeged indices, respectively. The different versions of Szeged and PIindices are the most important topological indices defined in Chemistry. In this paper, we compute the edge-Szeged and vertex-PIindices of some important classes of benzenoid systems.
متن کاملDetection and Recognition of Road Markings in Panoramic Images
The detection of road lane markings has many practical applications, such as advanced driver assistance systems and road maintenance. In this paper we propose an algorithm to detect and recognize road lane markings from panoramic images. Our algorithm consists of four steps. First, an inverse perspective mapping is applied to the image, and the potential road markings are segmented based on the...
